What is a hairdressing apprenticeship level 2?

The work-based training programme takes up to 2 years to complete, you will achieve a Level 2 Hair Professional Diploma, you will attend training at an academy and work in the salon each week. The course covers shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair/scalp, consultation and advising clients, styling and finishing, cutting, colouring and health and safety.  

You will also cover subjects such as  personal learning and development, employment rights, equality and diversity, safeguarding and Prevent Duty and functional skills.

Costing and Funding

You can hire an apprentice from as little as £3.50 per hour, your apprentice needs to work a minimum of 30 hours a week. The government provides a substantial amount of funding toward apprenticeships which means apart from wages there is minimal cost to the employer. The level of funding available and employer contribution amount depends on the age of the apprentice.
