The last 2 years have seen major changes to Chichester and especially the high street Out of City shops such as Hobby Craft, Home Bargains and many more have appeared to entice shoppers. As great as it is to see new shops, how will this improve trade for the main four streets, South Street, North Street, West Street and East Street, the centre of town.
It’s safe to say we have fully embraced the coffee culture here in Chichester although, a pedestrianised South Street would in my opinion improve this. We love seeing more coffee and lunch places with street tables and chairs giving a more cosmopolitan, European feel to the City.
So, what to do in Chichester? Purchases Bar and Restaurant have always been one of our most frequented eateries with gorgeous surroundings and top class service indoors and out, a first class independent business, definitely one of our favourite! And with the new arrival, The Ivy Brasserie coming soon, this will, I am sure bring more visitors in to town.
Two new shops that have, in my view, enhanced the city would be the Sumptuous West Steet Deli, offering the finest local cheeses and tasty treats to eat in or take home. Next door is BUNCH – the most attractive flower shop I have ever seen with monthly window displays that brighten up the City Centre.
I often see negative comments about the number of coffee venues in the City but my feeling is if there was not demand we would not have them. We often use the Fat Fig in South Street along with Shake-A-Delic a stones throw from our salon, Creations. Another MUST is The Sweet Jar, especially handy for our low energy days when our manager Maria supplies us a 1KG bag of treats to get that sugar high!
Once I have my coffee in hand, a visit to Bishops Gardens to relax and admire this hidden gem of beauty with its perfectly manicured gardens is a must!
