The Creations Team Begin Their Journey Of A Lifetime!
Can you believe its been a year since we rowed the Chanel to raise money for our trip to Africa?
After 18 months of fundraising the time has come for our team to pack their bags and head to KwaZulu-Natal to work their socks off and get building. And all this is thanks to YOU and your kind donations, cake selling and support at our many events. In total the salon raised a massive £28,000 more than double our original target.
So what does this mean to our projects with the CoCo’s foundation in Africa?
Well before we even arrive there money has been gifted to start work on an after school club for 100 pupils who the team will meet and work with as part of the 18 day trip. Also funds were released to begin work on an area for the village to grow their own food supplies.
‘This really excited us! When we were given options for spending the money raised we felt this was the core to helping the locals to help themselves’ said Emma Shepherd a volunteer on the project.
‘It’s just the start of a partnership with the foundation and an exciting opportunity for us all’.
The team are working with the foundation for 18 days and during this time will be building TWO houses, attend the after school club, food project, local hospital and take the children to the beach, which for many will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s going to be a crazy busy 18 days for the team, with a 2 hour journey to site and back each day leaving at 7 am and arriving back at 7 pm, eating then bed ready for a 6am start.
‘The nerves are really kicking in now and now amount of research can prepare you for the feeling! For me it will be a case of get there and get on with it’ – Gary Ashcroft, Senior Designer at Creations.
