It seems every week at the moment a new hairdresser term is cooked up and it’s not just our customers struggling to keep up – we can’t either!
Highlights are on the way out and a whole new set of free hand colouring techniques replace them. We are just about to launch a whole new blonde range of colouring at Creations and you can see for yourselves that blondes are back in every magazine!
So do you know your Xpression from your Ombre? Hers my little guide for the trends creeping into 2015;
1) Balayage -The term literally means to ‘sweep and paint’, meaning you get sun-kissed natural looking hair colour that is applied free hand to give a totally bespoke colour result. It’s the perfect answer to low-cost hair colouring but definitely one for the salon and NOT at home.
2)Coconut Oil – what’s all the fuss about? Every magazine I pick up mentions this oil from cooking with it, drinking it and some even clean teeth with it! (yuk). It does however have surprisingly good use for your hair! Coconut oil reduces the loss of protein in the hair and locks in moisture. It has many of the qualities of refined argon oil so is a great cheaper alternative.
3)Ecaille – also known as tortoiseshell this is an updated version of ombre but basically means that you are using free hand darker and richer colours along with highlights for a multi-tonal look.
4)The Lob/Wob/Pob – These are the names given too variations of the bob; The Lob is a long bob. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift are fans of this look.
The Wob is a wavy bob, using irons to add bounce and volume as seen on Beyonce
The Pob is simply the iconic Posh spice bob that is cut with asymmetric lines ending at the jaw line.
5)Sombre – I know what you’re thinking, this is getting silly now! This is simply a soft ombre and colour get darker again at the ends to give a soft fade out.
Well there is a little look through the crazy terms of the hairdressing world! And to think – you thought you just had highlights and a cut…..
